Biography
Dr. Badawi Altaher is a highly experienced General Practitioner with over 15 years of dedicated service in nephrology, dialysis, home haemodialysis, and acute care.
Dr. Badawi Altaher obtained his Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) from The National Ribat University, Sudan, in 2009. He began his career with notable roles at Sudan’s Police Hospital, Khartoum Teaching Hospital, and Royal Care Hospital, where he was actively involved in managing nephrology cases and supporting renal transpc vvv lant programmes. During this period, he worked closely under nephrology consultant supervision, gaining extensive experience in chronic kidney disease, acute kidney injury, and end-stage renal disease management.
Dr. Badawi Altaher further distinguished himself during his decade-long tenure as a Nephrology Resident and Regional Vascular Supervisor at Diaverum, Saudi Arabia. In this role, he developed deep expertise in dialysis care and vascular access management, while contributing to both in-person and telehealth service delivery. He is committed to providing personalised, evidence-based care to patients and families, integrating clinical excellence with compassionate communication.
Prior to joining Imperial College London Diabetes & Endocrine Centre, Dr. Badawi Altaher worked at Diaverum, Saudi Arabia, as a Nephrology Resident and Regional Vascular Supervisor.
Dr. Badawi Altaher’s scope of practice includes the evaluation, diagnosis, and management of renal conditions in adolescent and adult patients. His clinical scope encompasses comprehensive assessment, stabilisation, and disposition planning for acute kidney injury, chronic kidney disease, and emergent renal conditions; ordering and interpreting renal investigations and monitoring and managing stable chronic kidney disease patients under nephrology consultant supervision; interpretation of 24-hour ambulatory blood pressure monitoring; referral coordination for specialised care when required; management of outpatient haemodialysis and home haemodialysis patients; and conducting telehealth consultations for patients and their families.

Nephrology and kidney disease management, with expertise in chronic kidney disease, acute kidney injury, and end-stage renal disease; acute and critical care, including the management of critically ill patients using Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) protocols; leadership and administration as former Regional Vascular Supervisor at Diaverum, overseeing vascular access programmes; procedural proficiency in vascular access assessment, haemodialysis catheter insertion and removal, access cannulation, and central line placement; critical interventions such as airway management (intubation, tracheostomy), DC cardioversion, paracentesis, and chest tube insertion; education and training as a certified BLS instructor with active involvement in resuscitation training; medical education for peers and junior staff; and proficiency in medical software and digital tools for patient care and education.
