Dealing with overweight or obesity can be tough, but you don't have to face it by yourself. At Imperial College London Diabetes & Endocrine Centre, our team of specialists, with their vast expertise in obesity management, will help you shed pounds and gain health.
Obesity is a chronic, relapsing neuro-behavioural disease caused by a combination of genetic susceptibility and environmental factors. Historically, it has been perceived as a lifestyle choice, leading to advice to 'eat less' and 'move more,' which is often unsuccessful. We recognise obesity as a chronic disease and are committed to providing individualised treatment options tailored to your needs and preferences, ensuring you receive the best possible care.

The Department of Health – Abu Dhabi has introduced a new daily oral medication for obesity management as part of its Personalised Weight Management Programme. This includes next-generation treatments such as orforglipron, designed to support effective and sustained weight loss under medical supervision.
Yes. Unlike traditional GLP-1 treatments that require injections, this new option is taken as a daily tablet. It offers a more convenient alternative for patients who prefer a non-injectable approach to medically supervised weight loss.
The medication works by mimicking the GLP-1 hormone in the body, helping to regulate appetite, reduce food intake, and increase feelings of fullness. This supports gradual and sustainable weight loss when combined with medical guidance.
You may be eligible if you have obesity (BMI of 30 or above), or if you are overweight with related conditions such as type 2 diabetes, fatty liver disease, sleep apnoea, ischaemic heart disease, hypertension, or metabolic disorders. Eligibility is determined following a comprehensive clinical assessment by a specialist.
No. As part of the Department of Health programme, the medication is only prescribed within a structured, physician-led care model that includes ongoing monitoring, lifestyle support, and regular follow-ups.
Yes. The treatment is approved for use in the UAE and is prescribed under strict medical supervision. Patients are carefully monitored throughout their treatment to ensure both safety and effectiveness.
