Biography
Dr. Muammar obtained his Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBCh) in Libya. He subsequently completed a Diploma in Child Health (DCH) in the United Kingdom, followed by a Master of Science in Diabetes (MSc Diabetes) and a Master of Science in Endocrinology (MSc Endocrinology). Dr. Muammar is a Member of the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health (MRCPCH), UK, and completed his specialist training in Paediatric Diabetes and Endocrinology, receiving the Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT), UK. He is also SCOPE Certified in Obesity Management through the Strategic Centre for Obesity Professional Education programme.
Dr. Muammar has made significant contributions to paediatric diabetes care, education, and research. He is the author of five books on diabetes and achieved the best diabetes control outcomes within his clinical unit in the United Kingdom during 2016–2017. He has a particular interest in advancing diabetes technology and improving outcomes for children and adolescents living with diabetes.
Prior to joining Imperial College London Diabetes & Endocrine Centre (ICLDEC), Dr. Muammar worked in the United Kingdom for more than a decade, gaining extensive experience in paediatric diabetes and endocrinology.
Scope of Practice
Dr. Muammar’s scope of practice includes diabetes management using the latest diabetes technologies, leadership of insulin pump, poorly controlled diabetes, and transition clinics, diagnosis and management of short stature, obesity, thyroid disorders, and pubertal disorders.
Field of Expertise
Dr. Muammar’s field of expertise includes paediatric diabetes management, diabetes technology including insulin pump therapy and continuous glucose monitoring systems, management of complex and poorly controlled diabetes, transition care from paediatric to adult diabetes services, growth disorders and short stature, childhood obesity, thyroid disorders, pubertal disorders, and general paediatric endocrinology.
